This quiz will help you evaluate your understanding of previous lectures.
We’re ready to start recording. When recording the artist listen for the best performance. Have the artist perform the song several times, recording each pass. You’re listening for the best and most emotionally compelling simultaneous vocal and guitar performance.

As opposed to Lesson 1, we’ll be multi-tracking instead of capturing a live performance. So in this section, we’ll be recording the guitar twice, capturing two different passes with two differential tonal sounds while ensuring our recordings are phase coherent. This will end up giving us more mix options later. We’ll demonstrate a specific microphone technique and the microphones and polar patterns used to capture each pass.

Since the beginning of this class, we’ve been using the same song. We started out recording a live performance, and at this point, we’re now multi-tracking, which gives us the option to have additional production to our song. In this lecture, we will be recording the lead guitar with the Mid-Side Technique, along with explaining what microphones we used and why.
Video 4:02 Min
In this lecture, we’ll discuss specific techniques used to record vocals for this song: microphone choice, acoustics/isolation, and positioning.

Our goal is to maximize separation and contrast between parts while blending all parts together into one compelling mix. We began this during tracking by recording each element separately and cleanly. As in lesson one, we’ll be adding some of the major mix elements to achieve our desired sound. Note: This mix will be handled differently than lesson 1. Mixes change anytime you record differently or add any extra production.
