Four Mic Drum Setup

Four Mic Drum Setup

Quadruple Mic Setup: Out of all the “simple” drum miking techniques, you get the most flexibility when you are able to use four microphones. Here are a couple of ideas to get you going:

Example 2: X-Y, Kick, and Snare Derived from a setup that we have gone over and modified. This technique involves placing X-Y overheads on the drum kit and also adding a kick mic, as discussed in the Triple Mic Setups. To add one more piece, we will introduce a snare microphone. Using a dynamic cardioid microphone on the snare drum, place it roughly two inches above the head of the drum and point it towards the center; again, play with it to achieve the attack or timbre of the sound you desire.
